An expert in the fields of urban education and educational psychology, Dr. Franklin Dickerson Turner is a lecturer in the School of Psychology at Kean University in Union, New Jersey. Dr. Turner’s research has a primary focus on his Multicultural Distress Theory, which centers around the emotional and physiological effects of stress on marginalized people due to their exposure to the dominant culture. Dr. Turner also brings considerable professional knowledge in the areas of race, equity, social justice, and issues associated with marginalized populations. Dr. Turner earned his B.S. in History from Florida A & M University, his M.A. in Educational Psychology from Rutgers University-New Brunswick, and his Ph.D. in Urban Systems with a specialization in Urban Education and a concentration in Educational Psychology from Rutgers University-Newark. He taught middle school students in the School District of Philadelphia and has worked extensively in the nonprofit and public service sectors.
